Guillermo Acevedo better known to family and friends as "Pop" or "Luis" wasborn in Puerto Rico on September 19th, 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in1955 and was assigned as a combat engineer. While stationed at Fort Meade,Maryland he visited relatives in Brooklyn. On this visit Guillermo met his soulmateCarmen Santana, a high school senior at the time. They were married onSeptember 14th, 1957. Four children were born out of their love. Subsequently,they settled in Gainesville Florida in 1973. Guillermos dedication, loyalty, andlove for his family never wavered.For several years, Guillermo had a small landscaping business in Gainesville, butnever had to advertise since he was so faithful, honest, kind and trustworthy tohis clients that word traveled. He was not only a hard-working provider for hisfamily but loved to serve others, even if he didnt know them. In collaboration withhis wife, they were involved in several community endeavors through localchurches and government. Their voluntarism supported a better place forchildren in addition to serving families at a food pantry. By nature, he looked forthe positive in everyone. The positivity he shared left people feeling good aboutthemselves.He loved the outdoors as an avid fisherman and hunter. His favorite place wasthe Catskill mountains for camping and showing family how to endure roughing itwhile enjoying it. Guillermos other favorite places were the beaches of Ormond,Crescent, and Saint Augustine. He greatly enjoyed teaching his grandchildrenand great grandchildren how to fish and tell them stories from the past.On November 29, 2023, Guillermo Acevedo of Gainesville Florida passed awaypeacefully with his family by his side. Predeceased by his parents PastorAcevedo and Felicita Cruz Acevedo. He is survived by his wife Carmen Acevedo, four children: Louis Acevedo (+Mabelissa), Amy Noel (+Kenneth D.), Kevin Acevedo (+ Sarah E.), Joel Acevedo, nine grandchildren and thirteen greatgrandchildren. Guillermo is also survived by his brother Sergio Acevedo of PR and sister Nereida Martinez of Land OLakes, FL.On Thursday, December 7th a service & internment will be held at 12:00 noon atForest Meadows Cemetery 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606.
