Gwendolyn (Gwen) Netherland Moxley of Brooker, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 27, 2018 at E.T. York Haven Hospice in Gainesville. She was born September 26, 1929 in Augusta, Georgia to Olin C. Netherland Sr., and Erma Davis Netherland. She graduated from Waynesboro High School and attended Georgia Teachers College (Georgia Southern University) in Statesboro, Georgia. She married Ben L. Moxley, Jr. in 1950. They moved to Starke, FL in 1955. She worked as a substitute teacher for many years. She began her career with the Bradford County School District as one of the first paraprofessionals at Starke Elementary School. She held many jobs in the district throughout the years and retired as secretary for the transportation department in 2003, serving 37 years with the BCSD. Gwen had been a Youth (girls) Sunday School Teacher; a member of Shands Hospital Auxiliary; and was a member of the Starke United Methodist Women - Group 4.Gwen enjoyed playing canasta with close friends and was a founding member of her canasta card group, which met monthly for over 45 years. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, watching SEC sports and game shows. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Gwen was a member of Brooker Baptist Church and a former member of First United Methodist Church of Starke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ben L. Moxley, Jr. She is survived by her loving family: Ben L. Moxley III of Daytona Beach Shores; Lynn and Gene Melvin of Brooker; Brian & Cassie Melvin and Brilee of Brooker; Brad & Jaren Melvin and Paislee of Saint Augustine; Olin and Sally Ree Netherland, Jr. of Louisville, GA; extended family and cherished friends. Funeral services will be held at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home, 620 Nona Street, Starke, FL at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Midville City Cemetery in Midville, Georgia on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are by Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home of Starke 904-964-6200 www.jonesgallagherfh.com.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brooker Baptist Church, P.
