Hans George
Berger
Apr 22, 1937 — Jul 2, 2026
Hans George Berger
Hans-George "George" Berger passed away on July 2, 2026, at the age of 89 in Gainesville, Florida, surrounded by family.
George was born on April 22, 1937, in Berlin, Germany, the eldest of five children. In 1949, the Berger family emigrated to the United States, where George proudly embraced his new home. He deeply loved America and served in the United States Army. His commitment to service continued through the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, and he was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge.
George had a lifelong passion for family and history. He remained closely connected with relatives in both the United States and Germany, helping preserve the Berger family heritage for future generations.
Later in life, George married Ingrid (Ahola) Landry. Although they had no children together, George embraced her family as his own and remained devoted to them after Ingrid's passing.
To his nieces and nephews, George was "the cool uncle." He had impeccable taste, loved a good party, and never missed an opportunity to dance. His kindness, generosity, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome, and he had a gift for turning ordinary moments into lasting memories.
George is survived by his brothers, Erhard Berger and his wife, Carol, and Fred Berger and his wife, Susan; his nieces, Kimberly Berger, Christine Berger, Monique Steinman, and Jeanine Allen; his nephew and godson, Bill Berger; his grand-nephew, Zachary Berger; his stepsons, Robert Landry and his partner, Jackie, and Donald Landry; his stepdaughter, Catherine Glocking and her husband, James; his step-grandsons, Shawn Landry and Derek Landry and his wife, Lisa; his step-great-granddaughters, Patricia and Bailey Landry; extended family in the United States and Germany; and many dear friends.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Meadows Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida.
George's life was defined by service, family, and an enduring curiosity about the world. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love that will continue through the family and friends whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Forest Meadows Funeral Home 725 NW 23rd Ave. Gainesville FL 32609
