Harry Taylor Carter born in Hendersonville, TN January 22, 1940 left this world on Monday, June 26th.He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Dennis and Eva Sue Carter, his first wife of 34 years and mother of his children, Glenys Joan Leeper, mother-in-law, Mary Francis Leeper and Brother-in-law, John Will Leeper.He is survived by his wife, Wilda Stanley Carter, daughter Leslie Gwen Carter and partner Mike Pickard of Apopka, Florida, son, Greg Burns Carter of Lakeland, Florida, brother Dennis Ray (Dot) Carter of Bowling Green, Kentucky, niece Traci Carter and nephew Jason Carter (Mitzi) of Bowling Green and nephew David Mimms (Yuan) of Adairsville, KY, Aunt Alice Hambrick , Canton, GA, who just turned 102.mother- in- law Carrie Brown, sisters- in-law Bonnie Leeper, Parsons, TN, Alice Braddock, Sandra Worsham, brothers-in-law James Delk (Charlagene) all of Hawthorne, Florida, Ronnie Delk and partner Tom Hutcheson of The Villages. Extended family sons Emory Stanley III (Karrie) of Story City, Iowa and Michael Jason Stanley of Micanopy, Florida, William Stanley, Boardman, FL, Mullis Stanley, Jacksonvilleand Jodie Brown, Jacksonville, FL; granddaughters Tiffany Stanley, Palatka, Florida, Miranda Stanley of Micanopy, Florida, Kaylee Cassels of Island Grove, Florida, Kristie Cassels of Story City, Iowa, grandsons , Justin Stanley, Gainesville, Florida, Kyle Cassels and Emory Stanley IV of Story City, Iowa, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and many friends.He spent five years in the U.S. Air Force, 2nd class, munitions specialists part of Strategic Air Command. After enlistment he worked at Springfield, TN, Auto Parts, DynoElectron, Georgia AFB, CA, Michigan Air Guard, Battle Creek, MI, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL, State of Florida Radiological Technician, Polk County Fire Department as Fire Chief, Training Officer, Arson Investigator and Polk County Civil Defense Director and Communications Supervisor . He served 23 years in the Florida Army National Guard, Field Artillery, retiring as Command Sargeant Major. He attended the US Army Sargeants Major Academy and worked with U.S. Customs Drug Task Force. He received many Army accommodation medals among them The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and the Florida Cross. Upon his retirement he owned and operated a motor coach business, Double Eagle Tours, Inc., Lakeland, Florida later offering cruises and day trips to the senior communities.He served as a City Commissioner of Hawthorne. He was active in the American Legion Post 230 serving as past Post Commander, Finance Officer and rental coordinator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, Florida.Special thanks to the E.T.York Center, Haven Hospice, and the wonderful caring staff, also to Dr. Bhatia, Mindy and Kim of the Florida Cancer Specialists as well as all the many friends who sent cards, gifts, love, and made visits during his convalescing.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, P O Box 280 or American Legion Post 230, P O Box 81 both of Hawthorne, FL 32640 in memory of Harry.Under the direction of Forrest Meadows, services will be held Friday, June 30th at the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, 22027 SE 65th Ave. Visitation at 10:00 A.M., service at 11:00 A.M.
