Harry E. "Skip" Cooney

Mr. Harry E. "Skip" Cooney age 93 of Starke passed away at his home on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Mr. Cooney was born on July 30, 1927 in Gamber, Maryland to the late William Smyth and Ruth Herbert Cooney. Harry and his wife of 70 years, Marianna Cooney, moved to Starke in 1971 from Carroll County, Maryland where they were dairy farmers. He was a farmer and truck driver most of his adult life plus they owned and operated Old Glory Feed Store for many years. He served on the board of directors at the Farm Bureau. Mr. Cooney honorably served in World War II in the Marine Corp.He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianna Cooney. Survivors include his children, Rebecca Lynn Cooney of Starke, Michael (Catrell) Cooney of Orlando and Daniel (Pam) Cooney of Stanley, Virginia; grandchildren, Morgan, Zach, Harrison and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Cyrus and Julius. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel. A viewing will precede the services beginning at 4:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 11:30 a.m.Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME OF STARKE 904-964-6200.
