Obituary

Harry Lowell Moore died May 28, 2015 after long illness. Born in Safety Harbor, Fla. May 20, 1925 to Michael Harrison and Flossie Pipkin Moore, he grew up in Lakeland and DeFuniak Springs. During WW2, he served his country on the Liberty Ships of the Merchant Marine service. After the war, he lived in Jacksonville with his wife and son, at first working for the United States Tobacco Company, and then making custom furniture under his own name. During the 1950s, he built two boats and was an active member of the Jacksonville Outboard Club. In the 1960s he developed a strong interest in photography, as well as other hobbies and skills mostly self-taught. He was a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian Church. After buying property in Arlington in the 1970s, he found it necessary to vastly expand the house, including qualifying to do wiring and plumbing himself. He loved tools, collected and employed them in various projects. He was a proud member of the Gravely Tractor Club of America and the NRA. After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively across the United States. Later in life, he got interested in computers and the Internet, finding new applications for photography, recording home movies, and researching his many interests. He was always active and in good health until the final year of life. Realizing his own need for one, he made canes and walking staffs from various limbs trimmed around the property, both using them and giving them away. He celebrated his 90th birthday at home a few days after the fact, enjoying his favorite BBQ, beer and cake, and seeing the family together -including his great-grandson. His final moments were with his youngest grandson. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; his son, Harry Jr. and daughter-in-law, Teresa Moore; granddaughter, Amy Moore; grandson Alexander (wife Carling) and great-grandson Wyatt Moore; grandson Charles Moore; brother, Robert (wife Marcia); nephews Michael Moore, Richard Eckels; Bernie Powers, Billy Powers, Toley Powers, Clare Cleland and Jim Cleland; nieces Sue Freedman; Sara Kay Cooper; and Kathy Pipkins..4140 University Blvd S Jacksonville, FL 32216 f: 904-739-81594747 Main St N Jacksonville, FL 32206 f: 904-353-0763
