Celebrating the Life, Death, and Legacy Of Harry C. Walters Jr.Harry C. Walters Jr. formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, passed Saturday, October 12, after battling an extended illness. Mr. Walters was born on February 1, 1954, to the late Harry C. Walters Sr. and Mattie Walters. Harry was a dedicated man who loved God, his family, and his police work. He served 17 years with the Broward County Sheriffs Office as the first African American Motor Officer and was often identified and admired as "CHiPs" when kids would see him. In 1990, Harry retired from the Broward County Sheriff's Office and married his wife and best friend Alesia prior to relocating to Jacksonville, Florida where he started working for the Institute of Police Technology & Management as a Police Motorcycle Training Specialist. Harry loved traveling around the world training police officers and making them the best of the best. On several occasions Harry would travel to Hawaii, for this was one of his favorite destinations. Harry is loved and respected by many all over the world and he will never be forgotten for his ability to protect, serve, and train others. He was preceded in death by his son Joshua C. Walters who passed in 2018. Leaving to cherish his memories are also his children: Harry C. Walters III, Patrick Walters, Brandi Walters, Desiree Lee, Whitney Walters, Tia Walters, Perris Walters, Terry Walters, and Arrianna Walters; siblings: Angela Davis (Butch) and Alfreda Walters, and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 19, 2019 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. with Rev. Dr. Jonathan T. Swanson of Hodges Blvd. Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Open visitation will also be held from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday October 17th for friends & family to pay their respects.
