Helen Imogene Byrd

Mrs. Helen I. Byrd, age 73, of Melrose passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Haven Hospice Custed Care Center in Orange Park following a brief illness. She was born September 2, 1942in Wytheville, Virginia to the late Charles F. and Elsie (Burress) Jones. Prior to her retirement she held various positions at Florida Fasteners. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Hope Baptist Church where she was involved with Secret Sisters and a choir member; she enjoyed living the simple life, helping others and she never met a stranger. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband Charles "Tommy" Byrd in 2004. Survivors are her two children, George "Andy" Vaughan Jr. of Melrose and Tammy Adams of Fleming Island along with four siblings; Harvey "Jack" Jones of Alabama, Kenny Jones of Picayune, Mississippi, Mary Belle Farfour and Frieda Jackson both of Aiken, South Carolina. Also left behind are two grandsons, George A. Vaughan, III and David Michael Vaughan and one great grandson, George A. Vaughan, IV. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
