Helen Elizabeth Auld Carr Helen Elizabeth Auld Carr, age 102, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born in Alida, Kansas on December 4, 1909 to James Rolland Auld and Christina Maria Erichsen Auld, she graduated in 1923 from the one-roomed school in Alida, Kansas, and then from Junction City High School in 1927. After attending business college in Topeka, Kansas, Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Schmedemann Motor Company in Junction City, Kansas, and then with General Motors in Wichita Falls, Texas. In the late 1930s she worked as a secretary for the Agriculture Department in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Jefferson Davis Carr from Clinton, North Carolina. They married May 25, 1940, and after WW II and his service with the US Army, they settled in Alexandria, Virginia. After Jeff retired, they lived in Largo, Florida until his death on May 10, 1983. Helen then moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be close to her daughter and granddaughters. She was a well-known member of the Florida Christian Center and Edgewood Condominium community, and a member of Southside United Methodist Church.Following a memorial service in the chapel at Southside United Methodist Church at 3120 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2012, Helen will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C., at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, to be with her husband, Jefferson Davis Carr. (He has been waiting for her for a long time.) Helen is survived by her daughter, Jean Carr Coker of Jacksonville, Florida, her granddaughter Hannah Carr Coker of Atlanta, Georgia, her granddaughter Elizabeth Auld Grymes and Elizabeths husband, Dr. James A. Grymes, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a great-granddaughter, to be born in May, 2012.Helen will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her special love for her family and friends, her concern for homeless animals, her appreciation for the symphony and classical musicians, her interest in passing her Scottish heritage and personal recollections of her Scottish and German ancestors to the family, and her always wanting to be of help to others.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen Carrs name to the Southside United Methodist Church Bell Choir, to the Friends of the Jacksonville Symphony Fund at The Community Foundation in Jacksonville, Florida, or to your favorite animal shelter in North Florida to help homeless animals..4140 University Blvd S Jacksonville, FL 32216 f: 904-739-81594747 Main St N Jacksonville, FL 32206 f: 904-353-0763
