Helen Louise Vavra, age 93, of Jacksonville FL, passed away on Thursday December 26th, 2024, at Baptist South Hospitals Community Hospice Center after a brief illness.Helen was born on August 16th, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio to Joseph F. and Helen M. Czerny and was raised in the Cleveland area. On August 23, 1952, Helen married Leonard J. Vavra. They remained together for 56 years, until Lens passing on June 9, 2009. During her lifetime, Helen lived in various cities in Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as Indianapolis, Indiana, Sun City, Arizona and Jacksonville, Florida. Wherever she moved, she bloomed where she was planted. Helen had an independent spirit, and was capable, intelligent, hard-working, organized and resourceful. These qualities served her well as she raised her family, and during her years of employment as a bookkeeper, as well as serving as a CCE educator at the various parishes where she belonged. Helen was also known for her creativity and artistic abilities, as well as her skill in all forms of needle arts and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Agnes M. Tansler and Dorothy J. Czerny, and brother Thomas J. Czerny. Helen is survived by her brother James L. Czerny (wife Jean), her seven children, Louise (Vavra) Sparks and husband Jack, Paul Vavra and wife Susan, Marie (Vavra) Davis, Steven Vavra and wife Diane, Pete Vavra and wife Yvonne, Joseph Vavra, and Timothy Vavra and wife Nathalia, and her ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
