Herman L. "Sonny" Schoening

Mr. Herman L. "Sonny" Schoening age 84 of Starke passed away at his home Friday, July 26, 2019. He was born December 17, 1934, in Jackson, Michigan to Fred and Bernice (Oronsky) Schoening. Mr. Schoening had served two years in the United States Army and was a longtime resident of Starke. He worked as an automobile mechanic at Terwillegar Ford for many years and also for the City of Starkes recreation department. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and coaching baseball. Prior to moving to Florida Mr. Schoening served as an officer for the Eagle Lodge in Jackson, Michigan. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Geraldine (Fisher) Schoening; three brothers: Carl Schoening, Fred "Spike" Schoening, Jr., and Richard Schoening; and a son in-law James Hunter. Sonny is survived by his four children Cathy Tune (David) of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Herman Schoening, Jr. (Debra) of Lawtey, Dawn Hunter of High Springs and James "Jimmy" Schoening of Starke and a sister Betty Winright of Jackson, Michigan. He was also lovingly called "Grandpa" by fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 30, 2019, in the DeWitt C.
