Herman DeWitt Stanley, Jr., 89, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 1, 2015. Born in Columbus County, North Carolina to the late Herman D. and Martha Noble Stanley. He graduated from Whiteville High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, studied at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and graduated from Harbarger's Business College in Raleigh, NC. Mr. Stanley enjoyed 38 years of working with CSX Corporation, beginning his career with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad and retiring in 1989 as Director of Police and Special Services for CSX. He was a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and was elected Deacon Emeritus. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donnice DeVane Stanley. He is also survived by his daughters, Donna Taylor (Jack) of Houston, Nancy Murray (Frank) of New York City, his grandson, Tate Taylor of Boston, granddaughter, Annie Farrow (Luke) of Boston and his brother, Wayman C. Stanley (Phyliss) of Ridgeway, SC. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville 32256, officiated by the Rev. Bill Carmichael.
