Hugh Leo Carty, 86, passed away on Friday October 3, 2014 in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday October 7, 2014 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South; the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service hour. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, with Military Honors. Mr. Carty was born in Quincy, FL on August 25, 1928 to Hugh Leo Carty, Sr. & Ruby E. Newman Carty. A longtime Jacksonville resident, Mr. Carty was a veteran of the U.S. Army. His love of the outdoors was only exceeded by his love of his family. Mr. Carty is survived by his wife of 65 years, V. Alice Carty; his daughter, Jayne Elizabeth Lewis (Raymond); his son, Christopher Hugh Carty (Brenda); 4 grandchildren Jennifer Clarke (Chad), Brian Ross (Emily), Johnny Brown (Shannon) & Tiffany Rees (Steven); 5 great grandchildren, Alexia, Reilly, Alyssa, Bryson and 1 great grandchild on the way. Mr. Carty was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Vivian Harrington. Arrangements are under the direction of George H.
