Obituary

Obit: Dr. James Frank CollinsDr. James Frank Collins, 85 of Keystone Heights died Sunday, March 21, 2010 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Dr. Collins was born December 2, 1924 in Brooksville, FL to Simeon Ralph and Eunice Smith Collins. He Graduated from Florida Military Academy, entered Emory University, but was interrupted by WWII. He joined the U.S. Army for the war, and returned to graduate from Emory University and Emory College of Dentistry with D.D.S. and M.D.S. degrees. A 10 year private practice ensured before he joined the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps. After Colonel Collins retirement from a distinguished military career he dedicated his time and energies to improving the quality of dental education and patient care. He became an associate professor at the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry. He was co-founder of the Florida Academy of General Dentistry and a past president of the national organization of the Academy of General Dentistry. Frank was an avid aviation enthusiast. At the age of 70 he acquired a commercial pilots license just to prove he could and because he loved learning. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Keystone Heights United Methodist Church. Frank is survived by his wife Nancie Allen Collins, her children and grandchildren, his three children James Frank Collins, Jr., Sandra Lea Collins Lowman, and Ralph Wade Collins, three grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, and Kelly Lowman, and three great grandchildren, Javen, Layla, and Riley Lowman. He is also survived by numerous friends and colleagues. Frank Collins loved his God, Country, family, friends, dental students, and lifelong learning. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:30 prior to the service. Funeral services for Dr. Collins will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11 oclock in the Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Herring and Dr. Samuel Soures officiating. Burial will follow at the Paran Cemetery in Grandin with full Military Honors. Arrangements are being held under the care of JONES-GALLAGHER Funeral Home, 340 E.
