James L
Crowley
Sep 7, 1933 — Oct 23, 2025
James Crowley was peacefully called home to our Lord on Wednesday, October 23, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on September 7, 1933, he was the son of Joseph Colin Crowley and Charlotte Dixon.
Jim graduated from North Quincy High School in 1953 and earned an athletic scholarship to Utica College. He later continued his studies at Jacksonville University and the University of Chicago. His career spanned 38 years in banking—serving primarily as president or manager—and 20 years as a civilian bailiff with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Throughout his life, Jim faithfully served his community and country in many capacities: as a member of the board of directors for University Atlantic Bank; a member of Riverview Masonic Lodge #306; a proud participant in the Morocco Temple Color Guard and Marching Unit; a member of the American Legion Post #283 in Arlington; a representative of the Selective Service System for the State of Florida; and, most notably, as a U.S. Navy Corpsman. He was also a devoted youth sports coach, deacon, and Sunday school teacher.
Of all his accomplishments, Jim's greatest pride was in being a husband, father, and Poppa. He once said, "I concentrate on important family things," and the life he lived proved this true. As the cornerstone of the Crowley family, he was their sacrificial provider, fierce protector, and ever-present source of dependability and deep abiding love. His strength kept them strong, especially through hardship, and his silly humor kept joy in their hearts.
To know Jim—whether as family or friend—was to love him and to be changed by him. He was a beautiful, kind force who leaves a legacy worthy of praise and emulation.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty Crowley; his children, Robin Crowley and Danny (Cindy) Crowley; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
