James A. Forbes, Jr.James A. Forbes, Jr. passed away on June 28, 2021. He was born August 18, 1937, in Wilmington, NC. He attended Boys State at UNC, graduated from New Hanover High School in the top 10% of his class of 355 students and was an alumnus of N.C. State University.He began his railroad career in 1957 and moved to Jacksonville with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in July 1960. After achieving his goal of becoming an auditor for the accounting department in 1970, he held many positions with CSX Transportation and retired, after 39 years, 7 months of dedicated service, on April 2, 1997, from CSX Real Property.James was preceded in death by his mother Ethellyn Brown Forbes (1964) and his father, James A. Forbes, Sr. (1977)He loved golf but was a poor player, a good fisherman, a bettor bowler and in his day, an exceptional billiards player, having once made 53 consecutive shots in a call game of straight rotation. He also enjoyed assembling many electronic devices, including tuners, pre-amps, amplifiers, receivers and a color TV.He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Sherran Marie Forbes, sons James (Jim) A. Forbes, III, Franklinton, NC, (Angela) and Christopher (Chris) A. Forbes, San Antonio, TX, stepsons Robert (Bobby) D. Herrington, Knoxville, TN, (Tracy) and Ronald (Jeff) J. Herrington, St. Petersburg, FL (David), 9 grandchildren, 4 great granddaughters and 4 great grandsons.Visitation with family members at the George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home at 4140 University Bld. S., Jacksonville, FL 32216, will be available from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday, July 2, 2021. A memorial service will follow, starting at 2:00 PM, with Dr. B.J.
