Funeral services for James Aaron Hazen, 89, will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in First United Methodist Church, 225 E. Duval St., with Rev. Tony Chance officiating. Private burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Born September 2, 1925 in Gainesville, Florida, to Abaslom and Ruby Hazen, Mr. Hazen died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in Jacksonville. He was a retired Civil Engineer and Senior Manager from CSX Transportation, Inc. Mr. Hazen served in the U. S. Army during World War II; was a member of and served on the Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church; was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution; was a life member of Duval Lodge No. 159, F. was a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies; was a member of Morocco Temple of the Shrine and the Legion of Honor at Morocco Temple; and was a member of The Royal Order of Jesters, Court 90. Mr. Hazen was predeceased by his step-son, James Glenwood Hayhurst, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Leona Ernestine "Tina" Cramer Hazen; a daughter-in-law, Anne Marks Hayhurst; and two grandchildren, James Glenwood (Shawn) Hayhurst, Jr. and Shelley Suzanne Hayhurst. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South where friends may call on Monday.
