McHone, James Patrick, 70, died on September 17, 2017 of an extended illness. He was the only child of James and Helen McHone, who predeceased him . He leaves his wife, Lynda, his sons Bryan(Heather) and Mark(partner Myra Robinson), and his grandson, Evan, his brother-in-law Dwight(Anne), and many sorrowing friends and relatives.Graduating from Forrest High in 1965, and FSU in 1970, he joined the Army National Guard and retired after 23 years of service. He attained the rank of SSgt and received many awards including the Florida Meritorious Service Ribbon, and the Florida Commendation Medal from the governor. He was most proud of his training as a Combat Medic, and his years of service at Camp Blanding with the 853 and 927 Medical Companies . He was a teacher at Andrew Jackson High for 20 of his 31 years of teaching.He was a "walking encyclopedia" on many subjects and a voracious reader of history and archaeology. He was active in Boy Scouts, sponsored the History and Judo Clubs at Andrew Jackson, was a Civil War Reenactor at Ft. Clinch, and appeared in the movie "Glory." He was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church for 43 years.Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at 11AM on Saturday , September 3, beginning with a procession from the office.
