James "Jimmy" Leslie Price

James "Jimmy" Leslie Price, Jr., 94, of Melrose passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Gainesville. He was born to James Leslie and Alma (Roberson) Price, Sr. on November 22, 1926, in Melrose. He graduated from Melrose High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. In 2005 Jimmy was responsible for inspiring the World War II Memorial in Melrose located in Heritage Park.Jimmy worked for Clay Electric Cooperative for 38 years as an Engineer. He also worked part time as a deputy sheriff for the Putnam County Sheriffs office and as a co-deputy with the Alachua County Sheriffs office at the same time. Jimmy was influential in a large number of young peoples lives in a positive way during his time with the Sheriffs offices. Many young people credit him with helping to guide their lives down a positive and beneficial way. In addition, he raised cattle for many years.Jimmy was preceded in death by two wives, Opal Ridaught Price and Polly Fredriksson Price. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Marie Price. He had five children: Cathy Price Harmon and husband Tom, Linda Price Williams and husband Joe, Larry Price and wife Anne, Marian Fredriksson Morris and husband Philip and Freddie Fredriksson, deceased son, and wife Becky along with Phylliss 6 children. Jimmy had 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services for Jimmy will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, Keystone Heights with Pastor Daniel Findley officiating. Viewing will be held at the church at 9:30 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be given to Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, the American Cancer Society or Alzheimers Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Florida 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
