Mr. James H. "Jay" Watts, age 86, of Melrose passed away at his home, Thursday, December 10, 2015 following an extended illness. He was born in Pearson, Georgia, on March 5, 1929, to the late John and Mary (Jones) Watts and moved to Melrose in March 1986 from Jacksonville. Mr. Watts had retired in March 1985 from Ryder Truck Lines following 30 years of dedicated service; he had also received numerous awards from Ryder Truck Lines. In 1992, Mr. Watts joined Trinity Baptist Church and had served on the Finance Committee and was a Deacon for many years; he was also the head greeter giving out many hugs. He and his wife were very involved with the beginning of The Compassionate Friends Florida Chapter, a grief support group for parents that have had a child pass away. Mr. Watts was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Jean Watts and his brother, John Watts. He is survived by his loving and very dedicated wife of 67 years, Alice and their daughter, Mary Milonas of Jacksonville and one grandson, Mitch Keane of Jacksonville. Also left behind are three siblings, Georgia Redick of Brunswick, Georgia, Jessie McAliley of Eufaula, Alabama and Kathy Roesch of Rockledge. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor James Peoples and Pastor Scott Stanland officiating. Interment will follow at Keystone Heights Cemetery.
