James "Rusty" Rustin Yates age 68 of Hampton

Mr. James “Rusty” Rustin Yates, 68, of Hampton Lake, passed away on August 10, 2026, at UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville. He was born on April 21, 1958, in Charleston, South Carolina to James and Patricia (Best) Yates. Rusty loved riding and owning motorcycles, often participating in motorcycle parades and challenging himself with rides on famous roads like Tail of the Dragon/Deal’s Gap. He instilled this same love in his children who found great pride in being able to ride alongside him. He found peace spending time in the mountains of North Carolina and was preparing his own slice of paradise there before he passed. He loved the water and found great joy boating, jet skiing, and slinging his children around on a tube on the beautiful waters across the state. He was a friend to many, and in his final years he participated in the local Liars Club, where his humor and storytelling bonded him to new friends and became the highlight of his day.

Prior to retiring, Rusty dedicated 31 years to Philips Healthcare as a field service engineer where his expertise and commitment were greatly valued by colleagues and clients alike. His passion for his work was matched by his love for his family and community. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Yates. Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Susan (Keith) Yates, and their three children Keith Yates, Kelsey Gipson (Stephenson), and Kristie Tziahanas (Thomas). He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Starke on September 26th at 1pm.
