Obituary

Janice Lillian DeFlorio Plona

December 28, 1950 – June 6, 2026

Janice's warmth, grace, and boundless love will live on forever through the family she adored. Born in the Bronx, NY, to the late Richy and Edna DeFlorio, Jan's early life was uniquely vibrant. Her father served as the maître d' at the legendary NYC Copacabana, sparking her lifelong passion for fashion. She went on to hone her creative talents at the Traphagen School of Fashion, becoming a fashion designer and later a Regional Manager for Ups N Downs in New York.

As her life evolved, so did her calling. After having children, she channeled her innate empathy into a second career as a Department Head at Avon Health Center for 25+year devoting her life to making other's people's life better —a perfect match for her deeply giving nature. To know Jan was to be loved by her; everyone she met became instant family. She lived by the philosophy of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, believing that "no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."

Janice's most cherished role was being the anchor of her family. Her legacy of love will be carried forward by her devoted husband, Andy Plona; her children, Heather (Jay) Cramer of Granby, CT, Halsey Husson (Chris)of St. Augustine, FL, and Adam (Ashley) Plona of Woodstock, CT; and her brother, Richard (Joanne) DeFlorio of FL.

She was the ultimate proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Jake, Luke (Lila), Toby, Carmine, Faith, Emma, Tristan, Giulietta, Emmett, Owen, and Weston; and her great-grandson, Wyatt. She also leaves behind her beloved niece, Lauren (Charlie); nephew, Jonathan (Andrea, Gianna, Dominic); brother-in-law, Peter (Cindy); sister-in-law, Jennifer (whose husband, Mark, predeceased Jan); and many wonderful friends and neighbors in Fleming Island, FL, especially her dear neighbor Alexis and family.

Janice loved her animals deeply and wished for a world where no animal or child suffers.

In her memory, please consider performing a random act of kindness, planting a tree, or making a donation to a local animal shelter. In Jan's name. She will be laid to rest in Hartsdale, New York.
