Mrs. Janice Carolyn Young age 87 of Melrose passed away at her home Wednesday, April 17, 2024. She was born September 3, 1936, in Gaffney, South Carolina to Teddy Roosevelt and Margaret (Huskey) Philbeck. Mrs. Young was a homemaker, enjoyed reading, and was a longtime member of Eliam Baptist Church where, when able would volunteer countless hours helping in the kitchen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husband of 50 plus years Baxter Young, Sr. and their son Baxter H. Young, Jr. Her survivors are three children Lynn Callaway (David) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Sandra Florer of Starke, and Gary Young (Michelle) of Rockhill, South Carolina, along with a brother Reverend Travis Norman Philbeck of Gaffney, South Carolina. She was lovingly called "Granny" by twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2024, in Eliam Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Arthur Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Eliam Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Community Hospice in memory of Janice Young.
