Jean Erlene Hattaway, 87 passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Florida. She was born in the Panama Canal Zone, on February 23, 1936, to Soloman and Gladys Hattaway. She spent most of her young life in Jacksonville, Florida with her parents and older sister, June. She went to work, at age 18, for Prudential Insurance and remained, happily, employed with them for 37 years. Through a good friend at Prudential, Jean met Charles R. Mohr who became the love of her life. Jean and Charles chose to spend their retirement years together, along with their beloved dachshund, Gypsy. They traveled the country for 14 years, in a total of 3 luxury motor homes, of which each kept getting larger and nicer. During this time, they visited the capitals of all 50 States of the US. Along with Charles, Jean was a driver, as well as a navigator. Most of all, she loved keeping beautiful scrapbooks of their amazing adventures. In 2004, Their hearts turned back to home, in Florida, and they were among the first residents to move into Oak Hammock at the University of Florida in Gainesville. For more than 12 years, they were very happy in their Independent Living apartment, with its beautiful view overlooking the acres of oak trees. Jean moved to Skilled Nursing in 2017, where the Oak Hammock employees gave her wonderful care while nurturing her love of music (especially Elvis Presley) and animals. Everyone, there, appreciated Jeans sense of humor and positive attitude. Those of us who loved Jean are forever grateful to the staff at Oak Hammock for the loving care she received.
