Jeanette Hurst Thurmond

Jeanette Hurst Thurmond, 81, passed away on October 19, 2015 in Jacksonville. Jeanette was born on December 1, 1933 in Olustee, FL to Slater & Elsie Hurst. She was a graduate of Landon High School, class of 1952 and retired after a 30 plus year career with Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company. Jeanette also spent 10 years working with the Law Offices of Christopher Hurst, and for many years she has been a faithful member of Southpoint Baptist Church. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents Slater her husband, Jones Thurmond; a brother, Nathaniel Hurst & nephews Steven & Christopher Hurst. Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Sandy Thurmond; her brother, Jerry McDonald (Joyce); sister in law, Lettie Hurst; step daughter, Gail Thurmond; special friend, Karen Davis and numerous, loving extended family & friends. The family wishes to send a special "Thank you" to the staff of Baptist Medical Center's 4th floor C.C.U. for the outstanding care that they provided to Jeanette. She did so much for so many and we are all better off for having known her. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday October 22, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard South. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 23, 2015 in Southpoint Baptist Church, 3335 Tiger Hole Rd., with Dr. Terry N. Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
