Jerome "Jerry" Joseph Gaffney, 83, of Gainesville, Florida passed away on September 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on April 21, 1942, in Waterloo Iowa, the son of Andrew and Phyllis (Breitbach) Gaffney. Jerry was raised and educated near Winthrop and was a 1960 graduate of Winthrop High School. He then studied Agricultural Engineering at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and earned a master's degree from Penn State in Engineering.

On December 30, 1967, Jerry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn Maksi. Jerry and Evelyn made their home in Gainesville, FL where they were active in their church, Holy Faith Catholic Church and raised their family. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved music, enjoyed attending local folk festivals, and had keen sense of humor.

Jerry worked for the USDA at the University of Florida, as a research engineer until 1991 and then founded his own successful scientific company with global customers. He served as Chief Engineer for GEC Precision Temperature Instruments.

Jerry is survived by his daughters, Lisa Gaffney and Janet Ramondetta and son-in-law Pete. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, son Stephen who died at birth on January 13, 1972, his parents Andrew and Phyllis Gaffney, and brothers Paul and Rick Gaffney.

Survivors also include seven siblings, Ann Appell of Galva, Illinois, Colleen (Frank Ben) Gaffney of Boulder, Colorado, Mark (Mary Lou) Gaffney of Winthrop, Iowa, Leo (Lori) Gaffney of Ryan, Iowa, Susan (Michael) Callison of Urbandale, Iowa, John (Lori) Gaffney of Tecumseh, Kansas, and Trish (Rupert) Solis of Lemont, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Gaffney of Ryan Iowa, and Kathy Gaffney of West Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd St, Gainesville, Florida on Friday, September 19th at 11:00am. Condolences may be mailed to the Family of Jerry Gaffney, c/o Pete and Janet Ramondetta, 1493 Oberlin Terrace, Lake Mary, FL 32746.
