Mr. Jerry Lee McGriff age 64, of Starke passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010 suddenly. Jerry was born on June 11, 1946 in Albertville, Alabama to the late Dewey Lee and Ona Garrison McGriff. He graduated from Livingston University now the University of West Alabama receiving a bachelors degree in biology and masters degree in education with a concentration in biology, and continued his educational studies at the University of Florida. He moved to Starke in 1972 from Alabama and began teaching for the Bradford County School Board. Mr. McGriff attended Madison Street Baptist Church, was an active member of the University of West Alabama Alumni, the University of Florida Alumni, a former member of the Starke Gator Quarterback Club, a member of the U.S. Tennis Association, the Amateur Softball Organization, and the Florida and National Wildlife Organization. Survivors are his daughter Christy Stipes of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren: Courtney Massengill; Daniel Massengill; and Maya Massengill; sister: Dorine Dodie Michel of The Villages; several cousins; extended family: Anna Ruth Johnson; Chub (Joy) Johnson; Chuck (Terri) Johnson; Jeff (Carrie) Johnson; Cody; Logan; Nicholas; and Ashley Johnson all of Starke; The family will receive friends at the DEWITT C. JONES CHAPEL on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 4-6 PM with funeral services following at 6:00 PM. There will be a viewing on Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Mt. Olive Congregational Methodist Church in Cullman, Alabama at 1:00 PM with services following at 2:00 PM central time. Interment will be immediately follwing in the Church Cemetery. The Reverend John Garrison and Mr. Chub Johnson will officiate both services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Bradford Education Foundation, P.O. Box 927, Starke, FL 32091.
