Joan Carol Richardson, 81, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family by her side on August 13th, 2015. A memorial service and joyful celebration of her life will be held at the Chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., South on Saturday, August 15th at 10:00AM with Rev. Donovan Cain officiating. Joan was born in Pontiac, Michigan, September 23, 1933 to Bernard and Helen Allen. She graduated from West Branch, Michigan high school in 1951. She married Alan Lewis Richardson in June, 1954. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an accomplished seamstress winning many awards throughout Michigan. Her later passion was quilting which kept her busy sewing quilts for 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Joan is survived by Alan Richardson, her two sisters, Janet Lafond of Florida, Judy Barnes of Illinois and one brother, Jim Allen, of Michigan. Also, her 3 daughters, Deborah Boss and Michael of Jacksonville, Florida; Lorie Walden and David of Gig Harbor, Washington; Jean Santacroce and Tom of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and her son, Brian Richardson and Beth of Haw River, North Carolina. She will be remembered for the love of her family, the passion for her gardening and the kindness toward everyone. Grammie Joan had the ability to make ordinary activities, extraordinary. She will be remembered for her humor, her wisdom and her puzzles. She had an enthusiasm for life and a love of nature. Her porch lizard named Larry and Freddie, the Great Blue Herron who loved hot dogs, were among her many adopted creatures.
