Obituary

Joanne Chastain Rhoden was born 12 July 1956 in Thomasville, Georgia. She relocated to Starke years later with her family where she resided for the duration of her life. On 9/12/23 Joanne was called home, to rest in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.Joanne is survived by her three devoted daughters Rebecca Sellers, Jennifer Sellers, and Crystal Baker and her "favorite and only son-in-law" Jason Baker. Loving siblings Diane Garrison, Bobby Chastain & Mary Hewitt and finally, her beautiful grandchildren Hannah Sellers, Peyton Sellers, Brad Baker, Aiden Baker, Johnethan Sellers, Stephen Sellers, J.J. Kemp, Jenna Pauly, and great grandchildren Izzy Sellers and Brantley Cole. Niece Barbara Elliott, and nephew Oscar Davis.Joanne was well known by many in the community as she was a mother and caregiver, not only to her own children, but to anyone in need and was called "Mom" by many. Countless times Joanne would open her home to children who were in need of a place to lay their heads, a meal to eat and clothes on their backs. Never once did she ask for anything in return. She was loved by many for her humble heart and loving soul.Joanne was also faithful in service to her church as she provided custodial services to ensure that the house of the Lord was clean and tidy. Joanne was also active in the community and took great pride in offering comfort, care and companionship for senior citizens of Parkside Retirement Home.Joanne had an incredible sense of humor and loved to "cut up" with her family. Her wit was razor sharp and it sharpened as time went on. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking and all things sweet. She was (and will always be) famous for her amazing Thanksgiving Day stuffing, her homemade gravy, strawberry-banana pudding and her pineapple spring breeze pie which included a "secret ingredient" which was an inside family joke, one of which Joanne started - she was a funny lady to be around, and she made us laugh & smile often. Joanne was an avid shopper. She "broke for yard sales", frequented the consignment shops, and loved to pay visits to her local family friendly Wal-Mart. Joanne was certainly no stranger to sweat on her brow and made sure to instill the same strong work ethic in her children as well. She was strong indeed but even stronger in her faith. One thing Joanne talked about most often was her love for her late husband William "Billy" Rhoden and son Kenneth "Bubba" Sellers Jr. We know she missed and longed for them both with all her heart - We have no doubt that both were among the many that met her at the pearly gates to welcome her home.Joanne will forever be missed, until God Our Father reunites us again.Arrangements are under the care of JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 620 East Nona Street, Starke, FL 32091.
