Mr. Joe Wilbur Sherrill age 86, of Starke died at his home on Saturday, September 8, 2012 following an extended illness. Mr. Sherrill was born on January 24, 1926 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Ney Clifford and Mary Anna (Howard) Sherrill and had served in the United States Navy during WWII. In 1956, Mr. Sherrill moved to Starke from Troutman, North Carolina and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Starke, and he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Prior to retirement Mr. Sherrill was a supervisor for DuPont. Preceding him in death were his siblings; Ruby Deaton, Nell Neill, Helen Neel, Frank Sherrill, Lynn Sherrill and his son in law; Paul Moore. Survivors are his loving wife of 67 years; Dorothy Maxine (Cole) Sherrill and their two daughters; Ann Sherrill Moore and Barbara Jo Sherrill and her husband Michael, grandsons; Paul Rodney Moore, Jr., Philip Richard Ricky Moore and his wife Barbara, Patrick Ryan Moore, great granddaughter; Abby Nicole Moore, and step great granddaughter; Ashley Ruis all of Starke. Mr. Sherrill also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, his beloved dog; Honeysuckle and his precious kitty cat; Elizabeth Mariah. There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
