It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Sheron Buckhalter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on April 5, 2026, just days short of his 92nd birthday. Born in Old Town, Florida, on April 9, 1934, John lived a life full of love and passion, residing in Alachua, Florida, where he made lasting memories with his family and community. He was also a member of New Oak Grove Baptist Church in Alachua, Florida.
After completing his high school education, John worked in various jobs such as Gainesville Gas, University of Florida and Alachua County Public Schools and he also became a dedicated entrepreneur and the proud owner of Buckhalter's Heating and Air, where he built a reputation for excellence and integrity in the HVAC industry. His commitment to his work was rivaled only by his devotion to his family.
John is survived by his wife of many years, Nola Buckhalter; his brother, Linton Buckhalter, his daughter, Sue Joyner (Wayne) and sons, Steven Buckhalter and Ray Buckhalter (Penny). His step-daughters Pam Welch (Tim), Elise Whann (Lloyd) and stepson, Phil Roberts (Laurie). He is also cherished by his grandchildren: Glen Haire III (Liz), Amanda Buzzerd, Staci Buckhalter, J Kelsey, Quincy Kelsey, and Chelsea Buckhalter. His step-grandchildren, Alex Blankenship, Brett and Jacob Whann, and Lance, Phillip Austin, and Shoalton Roberts. He also has many great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Each of them carries a piece of his legacy forward.
A gentle soul with a warm heart, John was known for his kindness, humor, and remarkable ability to connect with those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held in his honor, allowing family and friends to come together to celebrate his life on Thursday April 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM
at Forest Meadows Cemetery Central 4200 NW 39th Avenue in Gainesville, Florida, where he will be laid to rest in entombment.
As we reflect on John's life, let us remember the moments of joy and the love he shared so generously. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was preceded in death by: his father William Buckhalter, his mother Yoland Buckhalter (Bell), his first wife of 43 years Betty Buckhalter (Turner) his brothers, WC Buckhalter, and Raymond Buckhalter, and son Leroy Haire.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Haven Hospice.
