DampierMr. John Getzen Dampier, 85 of Starke died suddenly on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Shands at Starke. Mr. Dampier was born in Alachua on April 10, 1923 to the late Phillip and Eula (Cox) Dampier. In 1958 he moved to Starke from Gainesville and retired in 1984 from I.E. DuPont with 28 _ years of service. Mr. Dampier was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, D.A.V. Chapter 90 in Gainesville, an avid Gator Fan, and served in the United States Army during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Josie Dampier; Sons: Jerry Dampier & Joey Dampier both of Starke, and Steve Smith of Gainesville. Brother: Kenneth Dampier of Sebring, FL; sisters: Lena Kennon of St. Simons Island, GA and Grace Walker of Melbourne, FL. 8 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Viewing for Mr. Dampier will be held on Sunday, Jan. 4th from 6-8 in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel. Services will be held on Monday, Jan. 5th at 1 pm in the Hope Baptist Church.
