John Henry Foster, age 82, of Melrose Landing Airpark passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville following a brief illness. He was born in Center County, Arkansas on March 21, 1934 to the late Franklin and Leda (Cheatum) Foster and had served in the United States Navy. Mr. Foster also served on the Wichita, Kansas police department for many years before starting his career with American Airlines. He retired from American Airlines as Director of Maintenance and Engineering, and is a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Keystone Heights. He enjoyed rebuilding airplanes and recently completed two Swift planes. His hobbies included stained glass artwork and especially reading; memberships include the Midian Shrine Temple, Albert Pike Lodge, and Consistory all of Wichita, Kansas and the NRA. His survivors: wife of 47 years, Anne (Padley) of Melrose Landing Airpark and daughter Nancy Narcoma, Faribault, Minnesota; eight siblings: Larry Foster (Nelly); Mary Cook; Roy Ausburn (Jeannie); Bessie Fryer (J.W.); Fayrene Lentz; Roger Ausburn (Mary Jo); Leda Sistrunk (David); Wayne Ausburn (Karen) and one grandson, Jonathan Tuma (Webster, Minnesota). Mr. Foster was preceded in death by daughter Susan Bass along with four siblings: Clara Lovelace, Dorothy Booth, Don Foster and Charles Ausburn. A memorial service for Mr. Foster will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Stephens officiating.
