John A. Haynes, 86, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on January 26, 2015, after a courageous fight against lung cancer. Mr. Haynes was born in Hoosick Falls, New York, February 29, 1928 to parents Irving and Elizabeth Haynes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his discharge he met his wife, Evelyn, while working for Plaza restaurant in Sarasota, Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. and Masters of Education. He and his wife moved to Zephyrhills, Florida where he began his career as a testing coordinator for Pasco County Public Schools. After which they moved to Rockledge, Florida, where he was Dean of Students at Brevard Junior College. In 1966, Mr. Haynes and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he helped found Florida Junior College at Jacksonville with his colleagues Dr. J. Bruce Wilson and Dr. Adrien Beaudoin. He first served as Vice President, then as a psychology professor at South Campus until his retirement in 1993. He was a passionate Gator fan, and avid golfer, constant joker and beloved family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn (Freeman) Haynes; sons Timothy and Stephen; grandchildren Christopher, Logan, Jeffrey and Kevin; Brothers Robert (Noreen) and Paul (Mary).
