John "Darrell" Hornsby

Mr. John "Darrell" Hornsby age 67, of Keystone Heights passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, December 2, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born on April 29, 1949 in Clay County, Kentucky to the late Charles and Carmen (Goodman) Hornsby. At a young age he moved and resided with the late Noah and Pearl (Goodman) Hornsby of Deer Park, Ohio. Darrell was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served two tours during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He owned and operated his own trucking company for many years before his retirement in 1991. He also traveled throughout the country with his race family, his daughter Amber and his wife Sheila as a Vendor/Owner of D.A.S.H. Family Die-cast. Predeceased in death by his parents; his siblings, Marlene Allen, Noel Hornsby, and Lowell Hornsby; and his granddaughter, Jessica Elam, Darrell is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Sheila F. Hornsby of Keystone Heights; Daughters, Amy Elam of Bethany, Ohio, and Amber Hornsby of Keystone Heights; Siblings, Nelda Jackson of, Norwood Ohio, Billy Hornsby of Ft. Myers Florida, and Howard Hornsby of Independence, Kentucky; and Grandchildren, Zachary, Clara Jean, and Haylee. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family will receive friends at Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00-6:00 pm on Thursday, December 15, 2016 with Military Honors at 4:00 pm.
