John "Frank" Francis Mitchell

John Frances Mitchell Jr. (Frank)Nov. 28, 1926 - Dec. 25, 2018Frank Mitchell, age 92, received a special invitation from Jesus to attend his birthday celebration in Heaven on Christmas Day, 2018. Frank was the only child of John F. Mitchell Sr. and Ellen Griffin Mitchell of Waycross, Ga. Frank graduated from Waycross High in 1944 then served in the U.S. Army and the reserves for seven years during WWII and the Korean War. After receiving his Bachelors degree in education from the University of Georgia at Athens, he taught school in Fernandina Beach, where he met Adele, the love of his life; they married in 1953 and soon had two daughters. Frank was employed by the Georgia State Health Department before becoming a certified laboratory technician, working in that capacity in Waycross and then Starke, FL. He later worked at the Florida State Prison, where he spent 27 years first in the hospital clinic then after obtaining his Masters degree in education, as the Educational Supervisor. After Franks retirement in 1987, he and Del traveled extensively in their RV across North America and enjoyed numerous overseas adventures with friends. They moved to Seffner, FL in 2013 to be near their children.Frank, the epitome of a true Southern gentleman, will be greatly missed by Adele, his devoted wife for 65 years, daughters Cindy (Jim) and Debbie (Chuck) all of Seffner, FL, 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and a multitude of friends.The family will receive friends at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel of JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 1:00 P/M/ to 2:00 P.M. with funeral services beginning at 2 oclock with Brother Harry Hatcher officiating. Interment will be private at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Monday, December 31, 2018.Arrangements are by Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home of Starke 904-964-6200.
