John (Jack) Woodson NelsonSeptember 21, 2011John (Jack) Woodson Nelson, 93 of Keystone Heights, Florida peacefully passed away at his home at Park of the Palms on September 21, 2011.Jack was born a twin in Sedalia, Missouri in 1918. He grew up in Bloomington Illinois with his father, mother, 3 brothers and one sister. He married Dorothy (Dotty) Poole in 1939 and proudly served as a Chief Petty officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged after the war and worked as a tool designer for an aircraft firm in Dallas Texas. He and his wife moved to Denver Colorado where they owned a pet supply store. Jack and Dotty trained and showed German Shepards for many years while in Denver.The Nelsons moved to Keystone Heights Florida in 1973. Jack became an avid golfer at the Keystone Heights Golf Club where he played weekly into his 90s. Jack and Dotty joined St Williams Catholic Church in Keystone Heights where he was a member for more than 25 years. Jack was very active in his parish and was a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. His wife Dotty passed away in 1986.Jack married his second wife, Sarah Alma Legasse in 1988. He and Sarah traveled extensively, visited their many nieces and nephews and were happily married until her passing in 2008.Jack had many hobbies including his golf game, donating numerous gallons of blood, volunteering at his church, woodworking and fixing golf clubs. Jack was the seventh and last living member of his immediate family. He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents Harry and Irene Nelson, Harry Nelson Jr, Fr. George Nelson, James Nelson and Mary Nelson Nordloh. He is survived by his two step-children; Sonja Seigler of Melrose and Theron Hunter of Keystone Heights, Nephews Jim Schwab, John Schwab, Peter Nordloh, John Nordloh, James Nordloh, Thomas Nordloh, Matthew Nordloh , step grandchildren Adam, Renee, Aimee and 17 grand nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers at Park of the Palms in Keystone Heights for their wonderful care and love they showed for Jack while he lived at the facility. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. Williams Catholic Church with a family visitation from 9 oclock to 10. Father Mike Williams will officate and interment will be private. Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME OF KEYSTONE HEIGHTS 352-473-3176.
