John Thomas Strickland

Reverend John Thomas Strickland, Sr of Starke, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Suwannee Health and Rehab in Live Oak. Reverend Strickland was born on June 1, 1942 in Stanford, Kentucky to the late John Henry and Abbie Christine (Chadwell) Strickland. John moved to Starke in 1970 from Orlando and Pastored many local churches including, Faith Baptist Church and Pine Level Baptist Church and is currently a member of Kingsley Lake Baptist Church. In addition to his pastoral duties, he worked for the Florida Department of Corrections as a substance abuse counselor. Preceding him in death was his sister, Jeanie Ginter. Survivors are, his wife of 56 years, Virginia "Jenny" (Davis) Strickland of Starke, children, Christy Strickland of Starke, Cindy Carlton of Starke, Wendy (David) Barnes of Starke, John (Missy) Strickland, Jr. of Highland, Siblings, James (Harriett) Strickland of Colorado, David (Terri) Strickland of North Carolina, Don Strickland of Bradenton, Phillip (Barbara) Strickland of Florida. Also left are his grandchildren, Courtney (Johnny) Martin, David Barnes, Shelby (Shane) Parmenter, Kaylyn (Dillan) Clemons, Taylor (Jake) Pickett, Makayla Carlton, McKenzie Beck, Braden Strickland and Arielle Strickland, great grandchildren, Trace Martin, Tucker Martin, Hunter Clemons and Tinley Parmenter.The family will receive friends at the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Madison Street Baptist Church on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Conner Cemetery.
