John Michael Sylvester

Mr. John Michael Sylvester 97 of Keystone Heights passed away at his home Thursday, November 26, 2020. He was born May 10, 1923, in Cornwell, New York to Salvatore and Rosa (Monforte) Sylvester and had served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Sylvester moved to Holly Hill in 1989 and following Marys death he then moved to Keystone Heights to live with his son and daughter in-law. Mr. Sylvester was a retired carpenter and custodian and was raised Catholic and enjoyed word puzzles. He also loved staying busy outdoors working in his yard, wood working, and at the age of 90 changing his car brakes himself. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Mary Elizabeth Sylvester. Left behind are his four children Sammy Sylvester (Kathy)of Marlboro, NY, Johnny Sylvester (Marie) of Milton, NY, Ruth Elizabeth Marsh of Ormond Beach and Harold Sylvester (Shirley) of Keystone Heights. He was also lovingly called "Grandpa" by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service for Mr. Sylvester will be held Friday, December 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Patrick Donnelly officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Clay County Humane Society or to St. Judes Childrens Hospital. Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 340 E.
