John Tabah, 77, passed away on May 30, 2024 after a long illness. John was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to the late Sade and Hendrika Tabah. He immigrated with his family to East Alburgh, Vermont at age 5 where his father worked for the Central Vermont Railroad, a branch of the Canadian National Railroad. He, along with his parents and sisters, all became naturalized citizens of the U.S.A.John graduated from Northfield High School in Northfield, Vermont in 1966 and joined the Air Force. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. On his return to the US, after the end of his deployment, he recalled having to change out of his uniform into civilian clothes in the airport bathroom to avoid harassment by civilian travelers. He viewed it as a dark day in our history and was happy that soldiers are now given the respect they deserve for their service to the country.He graduated with top honors from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont in 1976. He eventually moved to Raiford, Florida in the late 70s where he pursued a career in law enforcement.He is predeceased by his wife, Nora, by four months. Surviving him are his son, CJ Tabah and his wife Krystal from High Springs, FL, granddaughter, Summer Tabah and grandson, River Tabah; sisters Rie Sluder and husband, Jeff, from Kingston, NH, and Mary Brisson from Durham, NH; two nieces, a nephew and cousins; two stepdaughters, and step-grandchildren. A private family service will be held at the Northfield Falls Cemetery, Northfield Falls, VT.
