Johnnie Ray Gurr Mcleod

Johnnie Ray Gurr McLeod, 80 of Jacksonville, FL passed away on April 9, 2017. She was born on March 9, 1937 in Perry, FL to John Wesley and Sallie Doris Gurr (Hodges). She was the second of five children. Her parents both passed away at a young age leaving her an orphan at age 10. She and all of her siblings were raised by her maternal grandmother, Mini Hodges. This was a selfless act of love and strength for which she was always most grateful. She married Gene McLeod on January 16, 1959. She later moved with her family to Jacksonville in 1968 when her husband was named City Council Auditor. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a long time member of Englewood Christian Church and a strong woman of faith. She will be missed by many. Her memorial service will be held on April 22, 2017 at 11:00 at Englewood Christian Church with Ken Gemeinhart officiating. There will a time to visit with the family from 10:00 to 11:00 that morning. Johnnie is preceded in death by her; son, Alton Eugene McLeod, Jr. (Al), husband, Alton Eugene McLeod Sr. (Gene), sisters Shirley Sylvia McLeod and Patsy Lee Shipman, and brother Joseph Hyram Gurr. She is survived by a daughter Amy Caroline McLeod Ryals (Joe) of Jacksonville, FL, two grandsons Jonathan Andrew Ryals and Joshua Alton Ryals and one brother Charles Jefferson Gurr (Jeff) of Tallahassee, FL.
