Jonathan C. Slater, age 67, of Keystone Heights, Florida, passed away on September 29, 2026. He was born on August 11, 1959, in Pensacola, Florida to Martin E. and Juanita McClain Slater.

Jon built a long and respected career in asset protection and served as a regional director with Walmart-Sam’s Club for 27 years, retiring in 2018. His work reflected dedication, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility. Beyond his professional life, he gave generously of his time in service to others. For many years, he volunteered with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in their 4x4 Posse and often participated in ride-alongs. For a time, he also assisted JSO with scuba diving operations.

He also served his country in the United States Army for four years. During his military service, he was stationed in Bad Kissingen, Germany, and one of his primary duties was guarding the Berlin Wall. That period of service remained an important part of a life marked by commitment and steadiness. He remained in the reserves after being honorably discharged from active duty.

Jon will be remembered for his great sense of humor and for the enjoyment he found in the things he loved most. He loved listening to music and could often identify a song from only a few notes, usually adding his own fun facts about the song or the artist’s history. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football on television, playing golf, and his Harley motorcycle. These interests brought him happiness and created many lasting memories with those who knew and loved him.

Above all, Jon treasured his family. To his granddaughters, he was lovingly known as “Pop-Pop,” a name that speaks to the special place he held in their lives and hearts. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Slater; his daughter, Stacey Clatterbuck, and her husband, Greg; his son, Jonathan Scott Slater, and his wife, Robyn; his granddaughters, Emma Clatterbuck, Ashlyn Floyd, Ryleigh Slater, and Madisyn Slater; and his brothers, Daniel Slater and his wife, DeDe, and Michael Slater and his wife, Kimmi. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Martin E. Slater, his mother, Juanita McClain Slater, and other cherished relatives. His family will remember him with love, gratitude, and affection for the many moments of laughter, guidance, and companionship he shared with them.

Jonathan’s life was defined by service, devotion to family, and an easy humor that brightened the lives of others. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
