Joseph Lipsig, 82, of Gainesville died Thursday, June 20th, 2013 at his home in Oak Hammock of Gainesville. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 13, 1930 to Hyman and Yetta Lipsig. Dr. Lipsig was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War and retired as a chemistry professor at the State University of New York at Oswego. Joe had a broad range of interests from renaissance music to cutting edge technology to eastern mysticisms. He was devoted to his students and went the extra mile to help them. Joseph was a member of Congregation Shir Shalom.Dr. Lipsig is survived by his wife Roberta, a son Chuck (Patti) and two grandchildren Derek and Shannon.A funeral service will be held at Temple Shir Shalom, 3855 NW 8th Ave., Gainesville, FL on Monday, June 24th, 2013 at 11:00am.
