Obituary

Joyce Watler Dunnington was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 14, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed peacefully at home after a long and blessed life.She was born March 31, 1928, in Tampa, Florida, to Nathaniel and Joyce (Arch) Watler. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Miami, Florida, where she grew up, met and fell in love with a handsome sailor at the local roller skating rink. She and Jesse were married in 1946 and soon began their family. She devoted her life to them, always putting them and others first. She was an exceptional homemaker, using her skills in cooking, baking, hospitality and sewing to bless others. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman. Joyce and Jesse retired and moved from Ft. Lauderdale to Newberry/Gainesville in 1981, where she was a member of Grace at Ft. Clarke. Her sweet, gracious, loving spirit and compassionate heart will be cherished forever.Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Jesse, her brother Edison (Barbara) Watler, and son-in-law Glenn Carstensen. She is survived by her loving son Phillip (Vonya) Dunnington and her devoted daughter and best friend Kathryn Carstensen; her granddaughters, Laura (Bill) Woodford and Susan (Eric) Friedman; and grandson, Brian Carstensen; her great grandchildren, Alexis (Will) Simmonds, Zachary, Jordanna, and Liana Friedman; Kathryn, Carolyn, and Jacalyn Woodford; and her many nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and the Cayman Islands.A Celebration of Joyces Life will be held April 13 at 3:00 pm at Grace at Ft. Clarke Church, 9325 W. Newberry Road, Gainesville FL. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in her memory may do so to Grace at Ft.
