Obituary

The altar at Holy Faith's Catholic Church in Gainesville, FL will be less vibrant this week as long-time flower specialist Judite Conde passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on December 5, 2023, surrounded by her family. Judites life well lived, began on July 16, 1933, the youngest of five children born to father Olinda De Carvalho, and mother Judite Pereira-Carvalho in Gafanha Da Nazare, Portugal. Judite met and married Joao Das Neves Conde and they raised 3 children together, 2 boys John and Luis, and their daughter Irene. It was common for Judite to line the kids up on the couch for crocheting lessons, while she prepared her famous Portuguese cod fritters in the kitchen. She was a master chef. Judite spent her career as a pattern designer and seamstress for a coat manufacturer in New York. Judite could look at clothes people were wearing and go home and make the design flourish with her detail, construction, and style. She even hand-crafted her daughter Irenes wedding dress, a garment the family still treasures. Her hands were always creating and enthusiastically feeding everyone and everything around her. Birds were another of her passions; she had an African grey parrot that she cherished for many years. Her services will be held at Forest Meadows Mausoleum Chapel 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606, on Monday 11, 2023 at 10:15 am followed by her graveside committal where she will join her Husband Joao Das Neves Conde and Son Luis Conde in Gods eternal peace. In place of flowers, the family asks you to feed our local homeless in need, or even set out a bit of extra birdseed this week in her honor.
