Julia Taibi Griffis

Julia "Taibi" Griffis, age 86 of Graham, Florida passed away at the E.T. York Care Center on Monday, September 2, 2018. Julia was born to the late Alfonso and Maria "Cicotto" Taibi on April 17, 1932 in New York City, New York. Following high school, Julia married James "R.G." Griffis & they settled in Graham, FL., where they raised their family. When her boys were young, she went back to school, eventually earning a Masters degree in Education from the University of Florida. Julia taught at Bradford Middle School for 30 years. Following her retirement, she taught at the Braford County Jail for several years. Her hobbies included; reading, going to the ocean, traveling, playing the piano, following politics, science, history, playing with her cats and spending time with her family. Julia was definitely one of a kind and made a tremendous impact on countless lives. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and truly lived by the creed "Family is Everything." She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James "R.G." Griffis; parents, Alfonso and Maria "Cicotto" Taibi; and her brother, Joseph Taibi of New York. Survivors include, her children, James (Cindy) Griffis of Graham, Danny (Bridget) Griffis of Graham, and David Griffis of Santa Fe Lake; sister, Anna Clayton of Hampton Lake; grandchildren, Kelli Waring of Gainesville, Amanda Griffis of Brooker, Sarah Benett of Graham, Joshua Branham of Graham, Keith Griffis of Hampton, Diana (Charles) Griffis of Keystone Heights, Jackson Griffis of Keystone Heights, Gina (Randy) McCord of Graham, Melissa Griffis of Graham, and James Eric Griffis of Graham; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the DeWitt C. Jones chapel from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. A private memorial service & burial will be held at a later date.
