GANAS: Julian Jack Ganas, 92, went home to be with the Lord January 13, 2018. Julian known to his family as Pop and his friends as Zulu was born June 18, 1925 and married the love of his life Vivian Teague on January 28, 1948. Pop joined the Navy and was wounded in WWII and awarded the Purple Heart in 1945. He served aboard the USS Missouri and was present when the Peace Treaty was signed. He had retired from the United States Postal Service and was a lifelong Gator fan. He served many years as an official for High School and College Sports and Booking Commissioner for Pop Warner, JUA, and Sunshine Officials Associations. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Vivian Ganas. Survivors include his sister, Betty Katez and 2 children, Larry Ganas (Cindy) and Lorraine Harper (James); 6 grandchildren, Casey Ganas, Jamie Ganas, Missy Batten, Kelly Watson, Donnie Hardin and Allison Shively; 15 great- grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 PM at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery (Gate #1) with Rev. Bruce Armstrong officiating.
