Julian Irvin Goodrich, 88, of Green Cove Springs, passed away on November 3rd, 2021. Irvin was born August 30th, 1933 in Green Cove Springs, Florida Irvin was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and had a strong Christian faith. He was a life-long member of The First Presbyterian Church of Green Cove Springs, where he served as an Elder and as a member of the building committee. He also served as the Construction Manager for the church's current Multi-Purpose Building. After graduating from Clay High School, he attended the University of Florida and Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied Engineering and Construction, and loved frequenting The Varsity. He admirably served in the U.S. Navy's Construction Battalion, better known as the "SeaBees" and worked on various military projects in the Caribbean. That experience inspired him to begin his career as a Building Contractor. Irvin built many iconic structures in North Florida including the Jacksonville Amtrak terminal, Lakeside Elementary School, hangars at the Kennedy Space Center, artillery training ranges, many local car dealerships, as well as a few custom homes. He was also involved in the construction of the Veterans Memorial Arena, and the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. His favorite place to be was working on his job-sites and he considered his co-workers to be family. Irvin always looked forward to cheering on his beloved Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sports and school activities. Irvin loved animals and never turned away a stray. He loved learning and teaching others, and wanted to help everyone. Irvin loved his wife, Joyce, of 62 years most of all. Irvin is survived by his sister, Bernice Colley of Phenix City, AL; children, Leslie Shepherd (James) of Fort Myers, FL, George Goodrich (Susan) of Green Cove Springs, FL and Carrie Dugan (Derek) of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Andrew and Brandon (Leslie); Kara, Jamis, and Angela (George); Jacalyn and Dominic (Carrie); and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Joyce Goodrich; parents, Julian Steele Goodrich and Lucy Cadwell Goodrich; and sister Katherine Goodrich. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9th at Helm-Gallagher Funeral Home in Green Cove Springs. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Green Cove Springs at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 with Reverend Susan Takis officiating. A procession and internment will follow at Springbank Cemetery.
