Obituary

Karl A. Andrutis, DVM, MS, ACLAM, 63 died Thursday April 25, 2024 at his home unexpectedly after a short illness. Born in Brockton MA, son of the late Charles and Otyla (Orentas) Andrutis, he was raised and educated in Brockton and was a 1979 graduate of Brockton High School. He later earned his Bachelor Degree at Northeastern and his DVM from Tufts Veterinary School in Grafton, MA. He later furthered his education with a Postdoctoral Fellowship at MIT in Cambridge, MA where he earned his Master of Science Degree. He was a longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, previously living in Sutton, MA for over 10 years. As a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, Dr. Andrutis held many prestigious positions at both Tufts and MIT and was the Director and Attending Veterinarian at the University of Florida Animal Care Services for many years, retiring in 2022. His dedication and kindness touched the lives of many of his colleagues and the veterinary residents and faculty he helped mentor. Karl loved animals, both big and small. He devoted his life to their care and well-being. Also as an avid golfer, he could often be found golfing at Hawkstone Country Club, the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida or a golf course anywhere in Florida. He was also a collector of various antiquities and an automobile and motorcycle enthusiast. Karl was the brother of Wayne C. Andrutis and his wife Rosina (Cimildoro) of Raynham, MA and the late Kenneth A. Andrutis. He was the uncle of Kristen (Andrutis) Gould and her husband Stephen of Raynham and Erik Andrutis and his wife Caitlyn of Somerset, MA and the great uncle to several nieces and nephews. A family service is scheduled for later this summer. Donations in Karls memory may be made to the Humane Society of North Central Florida.
