Karl Weber, 80, of Gainesville, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at the VA Hospital on Saturday, June 27, 2026, after a long illness. He was born in Goodrich, Michigan and attended Ann Arbor High School where he played the saxophone; he loved music.
While in the Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor, he volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he was assigned to the 1st Marine Air Wing flying helicopter MEDEVAC missions. He met the love of his life, Mary, while she was vacationing in Hawaii. After only knowing Mary for 9 days, he proposed to her at a lifeguard tower on Waikiki Beach in May 1966. They married 5 months later and were married almost 60 years.
Karl attended The University of Hawaii, and years later attended Santa Fe College and The University of Florida.
Karl started his career with Domino's Pizza in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Several years later, he moved his family to Madison, Wisconsin to help his friend open the 3rd location of Pizza Pit, where they made several innovations to the pizza industry. Eventually, Domino's led him to Florida, where he was the SE Regional Manager for Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Karl and Mary owned and operated Pizzaman Express in Gainesville for 12 years. They had 2 locations where they always supported every level of education in Alachua County through participation and fundraising events. They also sponsored many youth sports teams where Karl often helped coach for many years. Pizzaman Express was the first to sell pizza at the Odome during Gator Basketball games and concerts. Pizzaman Express had been voted Best Pizza in Gainesville on many occasions.
Karl, affectionately known as pop, papa, grandpa, dad, and "Mr. Karl", was always willing to step in and give somebody a hand up. He changed lives with his generous heart and spirit.
Karl loved playing golf, shooting hoops at 'The Wood', Littlewood and Westside Park. His favorite sport to watch was any sport that his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren played. He loved the beach and teaching his children and grandchildren how to body surf and helping them catch waves. He loved annual family vacations, spending time with family in Michigan, beach trips, and glamping in Fort Wilderness at Disney World. He loved all animals; he enjoyed weekly deer sightseeing and daily bird and squirrel watching in his later years.
His greatest joy was his family. With the love of his life, Mary, they built a strong family including their children: Dawn Sposato (John), Heather Howard (Marshall), Michael Weber (Catherine), Melissa Orth (Jerett), and Kyle Weber (Hannah). Their grandchildren: Taylor Peacock (Jessica), Caitlyn Williams, Marshall Howard IV, Mary Grace Weinhardt (Parker), Matthew Weber (Ashley), Madison Weber, Camden Orth, Gage Sposato, and Colsen Orth. Their great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Williams, McKencie Howard, McKayla Howard, Marshall Howard V, Trenton Williams, Emery Peacock, Madalyn Howard, and Eleanor Weber. Family member and trusted companion Shadow "Puppy Dog".
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mona Weber, his brothers Bob Stacey, Jack Weber, and his sister, Peggy Jo Fry.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Karl's life and legacy during a Funeral Service at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, Florida on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00pm. Followed by an Entombment Service on the east side of the mausoleum at Forest Meadows Cemetery Central, 1400 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL where he will be laid to rest with dignity and honor. He will be greatly missed, always loved and in our hearts forever.
